Baron Von Glans “borrowed” the Golden Crown of the Neighbourhood and sells it tomorrow. The police can't prove a thing. Grandpa Vault, retired master thief, gathers you: his last gang. Prepare the heist at places in your own neighbourhood, crack the code… and escape when the alarm goes off.
Short, Normal or Long: 5, 8 or 11 stops. The length is in the case code, so other phones get the same case.
With a map: Grandpa Vault puts the stops at places in your neighbourhood. You see a drawn heist map of the night city: the gang walks along the road to the next stop, an arrow and cold/warm/hot show the way. The grown-up can look at the real map. Now and then the Baron's golden car drives past: tap it for gold. Indoors: walk on the spot with the phone in your hand. Without a map: the stops one after another and the escape on the screen.
Part 1, the preparation. Every stop is a heist puzzle: counting guards, the laser maze (with the camera, as AR), putting a disguise together, cracking a safe dial by ear (the phone buzzes at the right number), the blueprint past turning cameras, turning cables, finding the edited photo, a silent walk with the microphone, wiping fingerprints, the right key, the alarm code and the lookout post. Three hearts per stop; out = simply again. Every stop adds a part to the plan, plus a digit of the vault code, a trace about the secret vault or a tipster. Traces are always true. One tipster has it wrong; on Master Thief they really lie.
The heist and the escape. In the museum the Crown turns out to be fake and the alarm goes off. Police cars with searchlights drive across the map: if you're in the light, everyone stands dead still until the clock hits zero (the phone notices if you walk anyway). Roadblocks pop up, sometimes a helicopter flies over (duck!). Walk, don't run, to the hideout. Rookie: plenty of time, two cars. Master Thief: tight, three cars.
The finale: pick the Baron's real secret vault out of five places (three traces), find the keypad in the 3D vault, enter the collected digits (backwards on Master Thief) and pull the door open together. Then the twist with Chief Inspector Stella Blue, a photo with the Crown, an album and a Master Thief certificate with police medal as a PDF to print.
Team against team: two phones, the same case code, and via Party options a team colour and result code for the standings.
Tip for the grown-up: microphone, camera and motion sensor are only used on the device itself, nothing goes to the internet. One phone per gang. Outside: stay on the pavement, cross at a zebra crossing and never run; during the escape the game only ever says "stand still", "duck" and "walk around".
